Medical Fees in Tunisia Revised Upwards as of January 1, 2025
As of January 1, 2025, medical fees in Tunisia have been revised upwards, sparking discussions among healthcare professionals and the general public. General medicine consultations have increased from 35-45 dinars to 40-55 dinars, while specialized medicine consultations have risen from 50-70 dinars to 55-80 dinars, representing a 5 to 10 dinar increase.
The revision of medical tariffs is explained by three main factors:
Persistent Inflation
With an inflation rate exceeding 7%, the cost of living has increased, necessitating compensation to preserve the purchasing power of doctors after two years without a fee adjustment.
Heavy Taxation
A heavier tax burden, with income tax rising from 35% to 40% and a 7% VAT, represents nearly 47% of fees collected by the state, putting the financial viability of medical practices at risk.
Brain Drain Prevention
Finally, the need to stem the brain drain by offering a sufficient income to retain doctors in the face of more attractive working conditions abroad has driven the revision of medical fees.
