WhatsApp: French Media Outperform Others in Popularity
Since 2023, a new feature has been available to brands on WhatsApp, particularly beneficial for media outlets. The main advantage is that it allows users to select specific content they wish to follow. As a result, popular channels have gained millions of followers, as reported by BDM. Notably, top-ranked accounts include football clubs like Real Madrid and FC Barcelona, public figures like Mark Zuckerberg and Shakira, as well as renowned media outlets such as CNN, The New York Times, and Forbes.
According to Jean-Noël, responsible for monitoring and analysis at Image 7, a ranking of the most followed French media on WhatsApp was updated on May 27. What's striking is that top-performing media outlets cover Africa and surpass all others. The ranking is dominated by five media outlets, with France leading the way with 24.2 million subscribers in one month, closely followed by Jeune Afrique, RFI Appels sur l'actualité, RFI, and Brut Afrique.
