Medical Breakthrough in Tunisia: First Atrial Fibrillation Ablation in North Africa

The medical team from the cardiology department at La Rabta University Hospital has achieved a remarkable medical feat, a first in North Africa.

This success, accomplished on Monday, August 19, 2024, by Tunisian doctors, involves the "ablation of atrial fibrillation" using the modern "Farapulse" technology through the advanced "Electroporation Generator" device to eradicate atrial fibrillation and treat irregular heartbeat in patients.

Notably, this device was acquired by the Ministry of Health and funded by the National Health Insurance Fund, as part of a partnership with the Association of University Hospitals, to strengthen advanced hospital and therapeutic services in the public health sector.

This achievement would not have been possible without the competence of our Tunisian doctors, despite the challenges they face in public hospitals, including violence and a lack of necessary means and equipment for such a complex medical intervention.
