Tunisian Olive Oil Exports See Notable Volume Increase but Value Decrease

Tunisian olive oil exports have experienced a remarkable volume increase during the first eleven months of the 2024/2025 campaign, but this growth was accompanied by a significant decrease in value. According to the latest data published by the National Observatory of Agriculture (Onagri), Tunisia exported 268,600 tons of olive oil between November 2024 and September 2025, compared to 190,100 tons during the same period of the previous campaign, representing a 41.3% increase.

Volume Increase but Value Decrease

Despite this quantitative performance, the value of exports has declined significantly. The revenue generated was 3,599.1 million dinars, compared to 5,024.4 million dinars a year earlier, recording a 28.4% decrease. This drop is mainly explained by the decline in global prices: the average price of exported olive oil in September 2025 decreased by 46.2% compared to the same month of the previous year, ranging between 9.28 and 17.9 dinars/kg, depending on the category.

Conditioned Olive Oil Shows Slight Progress

Conditioned olive oil, although still representing a limited share, shows a slight increase. It now accounts for 15.1% of the total exported, compared to 13.9% the previous year. Bulk exports remain dominant, representing 84.9% of the total volume. In terms of value, only 21.4% of the revenue comes from conditioned olive oil. It is also worth noting that the extra virgin category accounts for 77.7% of exports.

European Market Remains Primary Destination

The European market remains the primary destination for Tunisian olive oil, with 58% of the volumes, followed by North America (26.3%) and Africa (9.4%). By country, Spain remains the largest importer, with 26.7% of the quantities, closely followed by Italy (26.4%) and the United States (19.3%).

Organic Olive Oil Exports

Regarding organic olive oil, Tunisia exported 50,900 tons, with a value of approximately 714 million dinars as of September 2025. However, the share of conditioned organic olive oil remains low, not exceeding 6.3% of the total exported. The average price of this oil is 14.02 dinars/kg, varying between 13.81 dinars/kg for bulk and 17.06 dinars/kg for conditioned.

Italy Leads in Organic Olive Oil Imports

In this segment, Italy is by far the largest importer, with 51.1% of the volumes, followed by Spain (20.8%) and the United States (17%).
