USDA's "Food for Progress" Program Supports Tunisian Date Sector with $24.85 Million Grant
The "Food for Progress" program of the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) has announced a financial support of 76.5 million Tunisian dinars (approximately $24.85 million) for the Tunisian date sector.
This five-year program aims to significantly increase date production and strengthen traditional farming systems in oases. Implemented by Partners of the Americas, a 60-year-old non-profit organization, the project will collaborate with Tunisian farmers, the Ministry of Agriculture, and civil society.
Key activities will include training and subsidies to improve water management, irrigation methods, labor efficiency, and export opportunities, particularly to the American market.
The United States Embassy in Tunisia, an intermediary for this project, has highlighted the positive impact of this investment, stating that the quality of Tunisian agricultural products continues to attract global consumers.
