Sonede Struggles with Unpaid Bills Totaling 860 Million Dinars

Houcine Cherni, a member of the board of directors, revealed that the total cost of unpaid bills from Sonede customers has reached 860 million dinars. This amount has been accumulating since around 2022. Cherni explained that the unpaid bills are divided between 360 million dinars in the public sector and 500 million dinars in the private sector. With a turnover of 1200 million dinars, this situation puts Sonede under pressure to pay its employees.

Furthermore, Sonede agents are often victims of aggression during debt collection operations, with approximately 15,000 incidents reported.

To facilitate bill payment, Sonede offers various services, including online payment, payment by mail, payment by current account, and direct payment.

In comparison, the Steg (Société Tunisienne de l'Electricité et du Gaz) faces a similar or even more severe situation, with around 1400 million dinars in unpaid bills.
