Tunisia Sees 12% Increase in Circulating Currency and 8% Rise in Tourism Revenue
Between June 5, 2023, and June 5, 2024, the amount of banknotes and coins in circulation in Tunisia increased by 2312 million Tunisian dinars (Mtnd), representing a 12% growth, from 19055 Mtnd to 21367 Mtnd, according to the latest data from the Central Bank of Tunisia (BCT).
Meanwhile, Tunisia's net foreign exchange assets stood at 22,975 Mtnd as of June 5, 2024, equivalent to 106 days of imports. This marks an improvement compared to the 21,171 Mtnd, or 91 days of imports, recorded during the same period in 2023.
Regarding transfers from Tunisian residents abroad (TRE), they recorded a 4% increase as of the end of May, compared to the same period last year. Specifically, the value of these transfers rose from 2862 Mtnd as of May 31, 2023, to 2979 Mtnd this year.
In parallel, tourism revenue saw an 8% increase, reaching 2143 Mtnd, up from 1986 Mtnd the previous year.
