Recent Rains Bring Tangible Improvement to Water Levels in Tunisian Dams

The recent rainfall has led to a tangible improvement in water levels in Tunisian dams. According to the latest data published by the National Observatory of Agriculture (Onagri), the global water stock reached 907.47 million cubic meters as of April 28, 2025, compared to a significantly lower level during the same period last year.

With a total capacity of dams evaluated at 2,368.26 million cubic meters, the national filling rate now stands at 38.32%. Although the situation remains below the optimal threshold, it marks a significant progress, driven mainly by recent inflows estimated at 12.98 million cubic meters.

Regional disparities persist. The Northern region boasts the best filling rate with 44.5%, followed by Cap Bon at 31%, while the Center remains in a critical situation with only 14.1%. Moreover, water releases during this period were limited to 2.23 million cubic meters, testifying to a prudent management of available resources.

Onagri highlights that these figures translate to an improvement compared to the same period in 2024, when levels were particularly low due to prolonged drought. This increase in stock constitutes an encouraging signal ahead of the summer agricultural season.
