Major Transportation Project to Boost Economy in Central and Southern Tunisia
According to a statement from the Ministry of Equipment and Housing, the corridor connecting Kasserine, Sidi Bouzid, and Sfax is a key project aimed at improving transportation and logistics in the center and south of the country.
Project Overview
During a working visit to the Kasserine governorate to monitor several road projects, the ministry announced that this corridor has an estimated budget of 1.4 billion dinars. The project aims to:
- Facilitate travel
- Reduce transportation costs
- Improve access for businesses to major economic centers
- Contribute to the development of economic activities along its route
Ministry Priorities
In this context, the ministry is pursuing several priorities, including:
- Modernizing the national and regional road network
- Opening up inland regions through rural roads
- Accelerating national-scale infrastructure projects
On-Site Progress
On the ground, the minister monitored the progress of several construction sites in the Kasserine governorate. He visited:
- The national road No. 15 connecting Fériana to Majel Bel Abbès, spanning 30 km, with a cost of 50 million dinars. The call for tenders will be launched in the coming weeks, with work scheduled to begin in the second half of 2026, according to the ministry.
- A 47 km rural road program to improve access to rural areas. The minister emphasized the need to accelerate the work to support the region's economic and social development.
This project is expected to have a significant impact on the economy and quality of life in the region, and its completion is eagerly anticipated.
