Cheques in Old Format No Longer Valid in Tunisia as of February 2, 2025
As of February 2, 2025, cheques issued in Tunisia in the old format are no longer considered valid. This was confirmed by accountant Anis Wahabi, who was contacted to clarify the situation. "These cheques are no longer effective," he explained.
In fact, all users were required to replace their old chequebooks with the new format before the deadline of February 1, 2025. After this date, unused cheques became legally invalid.
In practical terms, if you issued or received a cheque dated January 2025 that has not yet been cashed, it can no longer be presented for payment. "All holders of cheques in the old format have either replaced them with new ones or deposited them for payment before the end of January," Anis Wahabi recalled. If this is not your case, you will now need to find an amicable solution with the issuer.
This transition may have generated delicate situations for some individuals or merchants. The expert therefore advises those concerned to quickly approach the person who issued the cheque to agree on a new payment method.
To avoid any misadventure, it is essential to always stay informed about regulatory changes. In case of doubt, accounting professionals and banking establishments remain the preferred interlocutors.
