Africa's Richest: Johann Rupert Takes the Top Spot
Johann Rupert, originally from South Africa, is currently the richest African, with a net worth of $14.2 billion, according to Bloomberg's real-time billionaire index.
Aliko Dangote, of Nigerian origin, had been the richest man in Africa for most of the year, but now ranks second with a net worth of $13.4 billion.
Rupert surpassed Dangote in February 2024, although he lost and regained the title throughout the year.
In third place is Nicky Oppenheimer, also from South Africa, with an estimated fortune of $11.3 billion.
Egyptian Nassef Sawiris closely follows in fourth position with a net worth of $9.48 billion, while South African Natie Kirsh completes the top 5 with $9.22 billion.
The fluctuations in the ranking of African billionaires illustrate the impact of market variations, commodity prices, and global economic trends.
