Egypt Signs Contract with Alstom for 55 Air-Conditioned Trains
The Egyptian Ministry of Industry and Transport has signed a contract with French company Alstom for the design, manufacture, testing, and delivery of 55 air-conditioned trains, as well as spare parts and tools for the first metro line.
First Train Arrival Announced
On May 15, 2025, Egyptian Minister of Industry and Transport, Kamel El-Wazir, announced the arrival of the first air-conditioned train, destined for the first line of the Alexandria metro, to respond to the increasing passenger traffic. The project is part of a comprehensive plan to modernize the line, including the upgrading of systems and equipment.
Partnerships with France and Spain
In addition to the contract with France, Egypt has also concluded a partnership with Spain for the rehabilitation of 23 existing trains. A national company will be responsible for the development of a workshop to accommodate the new trains.
Modernization of Railway Systems
Another contract has been signed with an Egyptian-French-Japanese consortium to modernize the signaling, communication, centralized control systems, as well as the railway infrastructure, electromechanical and electrical power supply.
