Egypt Makes History as the First African and Middle Eastern Country to Manufacture Undersea Cables
Egypt has made history by becoming the first country in Africa and the Middle East, and the sixth globally, to venture into the manufacturing of undersea cables.
Until now, this industry has been primarily dominated by the United States, China, Japan, France, and Norway.
With an investment of $500 million, Egypt's first undersea cable factory spans 500,000 square meters in Damietta. Equipped with a 180-meter tower, it will be entirely focused on exportation. The project generates 2,000 jobs and supports 30% of local industries, thereby strengthening the national economy.
This breakthrough is part of the "2Africa" project, the largest undersea cable in the world, aimed at improving connectivity between the continents of the "Old World".
