National Electricity Production Reaches 2798 GWh in February 2025
According to the latest report from the National Observatory of Energy and Mines, national electricity production reached 2798 GWh by the end of February 2025, including renewable self-production, representing a 2% increase compared to the 2733 GWh recorded a year earlier.
On the other hand, production destined for the local market experienced a 2% decline. To meet demand, electricity purchases, mainly from Algeria, covered 14% of the local market's needs by the end of February 2025.
STEG remains the leading player in the sector, ensuring 96% of national production. Electricity produced from natural gas saw a 2% increase, while the share of renewable energies stood at 4.9%.
Furthermore, approximately 300 MW of rooftop photovoltaic installations were set up in the residential sector by the end of 2024. In the industrial, tertiary, and agricultural sectors, 323 authorizations were granted for a total power of 125 MW.
Finally, the peak electricity demand reached 3211 MW by the end of February 2025, compared to 3073 MW a year earlier, representing a 5% increase.
