Tunisian Central Bank Governor Meets with World Bank Vice President to Discuss Economic Development and Green Finance

The Governor of the Central Bank of Tunisia, Fethi Zouhair Nouri, received Ousmane Dione, Vice President of the World Bank for the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region, today. According to a statement from the Central Bank of Tunisia (BCT), Nouri highlighted Tunisia's ambition to develop renewable resources and promote green economy projects, particularly in the financial sector, which he described as a "major experience".

Nouri proposed including green finance and monetary policy in the training modules provided by the World Bank for banking executives, to enhance their skills. This proposal was welcomed by Dione, who believed it aligns with the World Bank's objective of promoting capacity building.

Dione also offered to provide Tunisia with technical assistance in this area, given the proven track record of this approach in combating financial exclusion, where the BCT had benefited from World Bank support.

Furthermore, the two officials discussed the possibilities of budgetary support from the World Bank to support Tunisia's efforts to stabilize its economy, which has "shown remarkable resilience", according to Nouri. Despite forecasts predicting a growth rate of 1.4%, Nouri believes that the prospects for strengthening the Tunisian economy would allow it to exceed this estimate.

It is worth noting that during this meeting, the two officials highlighted the quality of the existing cooperation between Tunisia and the World Bank Group. They expressed their satisfaction with the progress made and reaffirmed their willingness to continue and intensify this collaboration, which includes financial, budgetary, and technical support.
