Tunisia Shines Internationally with its Photographers in the Wiki Loves Monuments 2025 Contest

Tunisia is making a name for itself on the international stage thanks to its photographers who participated in the Wiki Loves Monuments 2025 contest. Among the tens of thousands of images submitted from over 50 countries, three Tunisian photographers stood out by placing their photos among the global finalists.

  • Ghriba Synagogue (Djerba) by Skander Zarrad The Tunisian-French photographer Skander Zarrad emerged as the most awarded, with five photographs ranked in the top 10 national. He won first place with his aerial view of the El Jem amphitheater, as well as images of the Thuburbo Majus Forum, the Ghriba Synagogue in Djerba, and an ancient mausoleum with four columns. These photos are now part of the ten Tunisian photographs selected to represent the country in the global final.

Other national winners include Atef Ouni, who was rewarded for his Moorish pavilion with five domes, and Majbri Wael, who was distinguished for the Ksar Beni Kheddache. Issam Barhoumi and Smailtn also made their mark on the contest with images of southern Tunisia and the Zitouna Mosque minaret.

Tunisia's performance comes in a context of strong international competition. This edition of Wiki Loves Monuments brought together over 350,000 photographs from dozens of countries, with participants from Ukraine, Italy, Poland, and Brazil leading the global ranking. Tunisia, with its 28 participants who submitted 1,393 images, ranks 20th in the number of photos sent, confirming the growing interest of local photographers in promoting their heritage.
