Morocco Breaks Tourism Record with 17.4 Million Visitors in 2024
In 2024, Morocco recorded a record 17.4 million tourists, a 20% increase compared to the previous year, with Moroccans living abroad making up nearly half of this figure, the Ministry of Tourism announced on Thursday.
Representing around 7% of the national GDP, tourism plays a crucial role in the economy of the North African country, providing jobs and foreign exchange, according to Reuters.
The number of arrivals this year exceeded initial targets by two years, the ministry specified in a statement. It forecasts that Morocco will welcome 26 million tourists by 2030, the year it will co-host the World Cup with Spain and Portugal.
To support this growth, Morocco has developed new air links to strategic tourist markets, promoted emerging local destinations, and encouraged the modernization of hotel infrastructure.
Between January and November, tourism revenues reached a record 104 billion dirhams, a 7.2% increase, according to data from the Moroccan exchange regulator.
