Senegal Emerges as a Hub for Entrepreneurs and Investors

Senegal is positioning itself as one of the most attractive African destinations for entrepreneurs and investors. On November 20, the government officially launched the "Startup Ecosystem," a device born out of the Startup Act (Law No. 2020-01) adopted in January 2020. This initiative aims to support startups, encourage innovation, facilitate access to financing, and strengthen public support.

Key Features of the Startup Ecosystem

The device provides a "Startup Ecosystem" label and a single online portal to simplify the labeling process and access to dedicated services. In the long term, over 500 startups are expected to be labeled, with the ambitious goal of creating 150,000 direct jobs by 2034.

Building Bridges between Investors and Startups

The program establishes connections between investors, incubators, technical partners, and young innovative companies. It also sets up monitoring and evaluation tools to measure the real impact of the initiatives.

Aligning with National Development Strategies

This launch is part of the "New Deal Technological" and Vision Senegal 2050, two strategic pillars that place innovation and digital technology at the heart of national development. Labeled startups will benefit from a range of concrete support measures, including:

  • Training and skills development programs
  • Preferential customs regimes for importing equipment
  • Specific tax incentives
  • Priority access to public markets
  • Adapted financing opportunities

The Senegalese government's efforts to create a favorable environment for startups and entrepreneurs are expected to have a significant impact on the country's economic growth and development.
