Tunisian Scientist Noureddine Raouafi Leads Historic NASA Mission to Explore the Sun
Tunisian scientist Noureddine Raouafi, responsible for the NASA Parker Solar Probe project, has led a historic mission that brought the probe closer to the sun than ever before last night. At just 6.2 million kilometers from the star, the probe reached an impressive speed of 700,000 kilometers per hour, as announced by the US Embassy in Tunisia. This mission aims to study solar storms and their impact on Earth, a crucial area for better understanding the spatial phenomena affecting our planet.
It's worth recalling that in January 2024, NASA rewarded Raouafi and his team for pushing the boundaries of solar research, setting new records and making discoveries beyond initial expectations. As a solar physics researcher at Johns Hopkins University, Raouafi is also a member of the American Geophysical Union and the American Astronomical Society.
