CREDIF Celebrates 30th Anniversary of Zoubeida Bchir National Prize for Tunisian Women Writers and Researchers

The Center for Research, Studies, Documentation, and Information on Women (CREDIF) celebrated the 30th anniversary of the Zoubeida Bchir National Prize, dedicated to Tunisian women writers and researchers, on Wednesday, August 6. This event highlighted the talent and commitment of five brilliant laureates who embody the intellectual and artistic richness of Tunisia.

Among them, writer Emna Yahyaoui was awarded the prize for literary creation in Arabic for her novel "Aghchiya Tatamazzak".

In the Francophone category, novelist Zoubeida Khaldi was rewarded for her captivating work "J'ai oublié d'aimer". The prize for scientific research in Arabic was awarded to Hayet Rais for her poignant book "Les mères célibataires : stigmatisme ou choix", a work that explores with sensitivity a often overlooked reality.

CREDIF also saluted Soumaya Mestiri, awarded for her research on Tunisian women and gender approach with her work "Pour un féminisme décentré : recadrer, résister". Finally, the prize for best screenplay was awarded to Imen Ghazouani for her poignant screenplay "Les enfants vont parfois au cimetière…".

This ceremony also paid tribute to the late poet Zoubeida Bchir, an iconic figure of modern Tunisian literature. Her name, now etched in the country's cultural history, inspires each year's participants in this competition. In homage to her work, a musical performance titled "Hanine" (Nostalgia), featuring six of her poems set to music and emotionally performed by artist Wafa Ghorbel, touched the hearts of the audience.

The Minister of Family, Women, Children, and the Elderly, Asma Jebri, emphasized the importance of this prize as a "national achievement" for promoting women writers and researchers, while recalling her ministry's commitment to ensuring equal access to participation for all, regardless of their origin.

Since its creation in 1995, over 160 women have been distinguished across various categories, including literary creation, scientific research, and screenplay. This award, beyond the honor, is a real springboard that values female intellectual production and contributes to enriching Tunisia's cultural heritage.

This annual gathering is a celebration of the creativity, scientific rigor, and passion of Tunisian women who, like Zoubeida Bchir before them, bring a unique and precious voice to literature and research.
