Ministry of Transport Intensifies Monitoring of Radès Commercial Port
The Ministry of Transport is stepping up its monitoring of the Radès commercial port, ranked 13th in Africa in terms of performance according to the Container Port Performance Index (CPPI) 2024 published by the World Bank and S&P Global Market Intelligence. The goal is to improve the fluidity of goods delivery and reduce logistics costs.
Optimizing Operations and Modernizing Infrastructure
The Radès commercial port, ranked 13th in Africa, is optimizing its operations and modernizing its infrastructure to accelerate goods delivery and strengthen logistics competitiveness. This file was at the center of a working session chaired by the Minister of Transport, Rachid Amri, on Friday, December 26, 2025, at the headquarters of the Merchant Marine and Ports Office. This meeting is part of the evaluation launched since September 11, 2025, on issues of security, safety, and operation of the Radès port, the country's main port hub.
Implementation of Recommendations
During the meeting, the Minister took note of the progress in implementing the recommendations adopted during previous meetings, particularly those related to the organization of port areas and the management of containers and trailers with long stays. These equipment are now grouped in dedicated areas, with strengthened coordination with customs services for their transfer or removal, in accordance with current regulations. The objective is clear: to optimize the use of port surfaces and limit congestion.
Digitalization of Administrative and Port Operations
The Minister also closely followed the evolution of the digitalization process of administrative and port operations within the single window of the Radès port. This approach aims to simplify procedures for all stakeholders, accelerate file processing, and improve the transparency of operations.
Extension of the Container Terminal
Furthermore, discussions focused on the prospects for extending the container terminal. Two hypotheses are currently being studied: the first involves creating a dedicated container terminal grouping quays 6, 7, 8, and 9; the second consists of building an independent terminal from the current one, composed of quays 9, 11, and 12. On this subject, the Minister of Transport recommended deepening the preliminary studies for each option to retain the most suitable and quickest solution to implement.
Strategic Vision
This future extension is part of a strategic vision to strengthen the national logistics chain, improve the competitiveness of the Radès port — already recognized on the continental level — and reduce the cost of goods passage, in a context where port performance becomes a key factor in economic attractiveness.
