Tunisian Parliament Adopts Bill to Reform Check Bouncing Laws

The Assembly of People's Representatives (ARP) adopted a bill amending certain provisions of the Commercial Code related to checks without provision on Tuesday, July 30, 2024.

Out of 130 present deputies, 127 voted in favor of the amendment, with only one opposing vote and two abstentions.

This bill introduces a new mechanism for resolving disputes related to checks without provision, prioritizing conciliation through mediation. This preliminary phase is now mandatory before considering criminal proceedings, which can only be initiated at the express request of the creditor.
