Zeine Zeidane Appointed to Lead Strategic Direction

Zeine Zeidane has been appointed to head this strategic direction by the Managing Director of the International Monetary Fund (IMF), Kristalina Georgieva. Holding a doctorate in applied mathematics, he will take office on May 1, 2026. He succeeds Abebe Aemro Selassie, who is leaving his position after nearly ten years. During his tenure, nearly $60 billion was mobilized for Sub-Saharan Africa.

With over twenty years of experience, Zeidane is well-versed in the institution. Currently, Deputy Director of the Middle East and Central Asia Department, he oversees relations with Gulf countries and participates in strengthening partnerships, notably through the opening of the IMF's regional office in Riyadh in 2024.

His career combines national and international experience. Formerly the Governor of the Central Bank of Mauritania, he also served as Prime Minister in 2007 before joining the IMF in 2012.
