Morocco to Officially Launch 5G in November 2025
According to the National Telecommunications Regulatory Agency (ANRT), Morocco will officially activate its 5G network in November 2025. This deployment is part of the Digital Morocco 2030 strategy and marks a key stage in the country's digital transformation.
Initial Deployment Phase
In the first phase, coverage will focus on major cities, industrial zones, and technological areas, with the goal of reaching 25% of the population by the end of 2025. Commitments include 45% coverage in 2026 and 85% by 2030.
Licenses and Investments
The three national operators - Maroc Telecom, Inwi, and Orange Maroc - have obtained their licenses for a period of 20 years, with a minimum cost of 600 million dirhams per operator. The overall plan provides for investments of 80 billion dirhams by 2035 for infrastructure, including fiber optics and telecommunications towers.
Security and Frequency Allocation
Security is also at the heart of the system, with the establishment of a national cybersecurity monitoring system. The 700 MHz and 3.4-3.8 GHz frequency bands have been reserved to ensure quality coverage.
Expected Benefits
The 5G network is expected to accelerate the development of smart cities, support Industry 4.0, strengthen telemedicine, and stimulate innovation within research hubs. At the regional level, Morocco joins the select group of African countries already engaged in 5G, alongside South Africa, Kenya, and Nigeria.
