Tunisian Cabinet Approves Key Projects to Boost Development
The Council of Ministers has approved a series of bills, decrees, and ordinances aimed at strengthening several key sectors of development in Tunisia. The main measures adopted include initiatives in the fields of health, social protection, agriculture, and major public projects.
Health Sector
A decree project establishing the "Aghlabides Medical City" in Kairouan has been validated. This project aims to establish an administrative and financial framework for this institution, which will integrate several specialized health structures, higher education establishments, and incubators for entrepreneurs.
Social Protection
The Council has also adopted an amendment to Decree No. 20 of 2022 related to the Fidaa Foundation, an institution dedicated to supporting victims of terrorist attacks, military personnel, internal security forces, and customs officers, as well as the families of martyrs and wounded individuals from the revolution. This revision aims to strengthen social assistance provided by the foundation, by modifying pension regimes, improving access to housing programs, and establishing economic integration mechanisms.
Agriculture
A decree project has been approved to establish a social protection system for female agricultural workers. This system will improve their income and guarantee social coverage, including protection against work accidents, occupational diseases, and access to retirement. Measures are also planned to ensure safe transportation for these workers.
Public Projects
An ordinance project has been adopted to remove obstacles to the programming and implementation of major public projects. This text aims to accelerate project implementation, unlock stalled projects, and enhance the competitiveness of Tunisian companies, while attracting more investments.
International Financing Agreements
Two bill projects have been approved, relating to international financing agreements. The first concerns a loan between Tunisia and the African Development Bank to finance a project aimed at strengthening semi-forestry agriculture and restoring degraded forest and pastoral ecosystems. The second relates to financing with the International Fund for Agricultural Development to support mountain agriculture in northwestern Tunisia, covering regions such as Béja, Jendouba, Le Kef, and Siliana. These initiatives aim to promote sustainable development, strengthen local capacities in the face of climate change, and stimulate rural economies.
Debt Regularization
Finally, an ordinance has been adopted to allow companies in difficulty to regularize their debts with the National Social Security Fund (CNSS) by waiving late payment penalties. This measure aims to support these companies while encouraging voluntary settlement of their social debts.
