Government Takes Urgent Measures to Combat Rabies Epidemic

The Head of Government, Kamel Madouri, convened a restricted ministerial council on August 19 to address the rabies epidemic.

Following the meeting, several key decisions were made, according to an official statement. Firstly, a crisis cell was activated at the Ministry of Health, with the establishment of green numbers to inform and support the public, as well as specialized psychological support if needed.

The national program to combat rabies will be reinforced and updated based on recent developments. The vaccination campaign will be intensified, now involving private sector veterinarians and doctors.

Sensitization and vaccination campaigns will also be organized at the central, regional, and local levels, particularly at weekly markets.

Furthermore, efforts will be made to improve the environment by eliminating illegal dumping sites. Governors will be responsible for overseeing the implementation of these measures and holding regular follow-up meetings.

Finally, a legal framework will be established to regulate the possession of dangerous animals, including dogs.

The Head of Government emphasized the urgency of implementing these measures immediately and following them rigorously to ensure their effectiveness.
