Tunisian Parliament Adopts 2021 State Budget Closure Bill
The Tunisian People's Representatives Assembly (ARP) adopted, on Monday, July 21, in a plenary session, Bill No. 75-2024 on the closure of the state budget for the 2021 fiscal year. The plenary session concluded with 64 votes in favor, 8 against, and 7 abstentions.
The examination of this bill was postponed at the request of the Minister of Finance, Mechket Slama Khaldi, who attributed the delay to the political and economic changes that have occurred since 2021, as well as the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic. These factors have complicated the budget closure procedure and delayed the official adoption of the budget.
The Minister also stated, on July 8, that her department is working to accelerate the budget closure deadlines and to review the compatibility and double-entry accounting standards in order to catch up on the delays.
