Tunisia Launches 5G Network Tender

The Tunisian government, through the Ministry of Communication Technologies, has launched a call for tenders for the installation and operation of a public telecommunications network to provide fifth-generation (5G) mobile telecommunications services. This market is relatively significant, with 11.583 million Tunisians consuming internet services through their mobile phones.

It is likely that the three operational operators (Tunisie Télécom, Orange Tunisie, and Ooredoo Tunisie) will submit bids for this tender. After registration (which includes a non-refundable deposit of 5,000 TND, a confidentiality agreement, and a duly signed information sheet), operators can retrieve the tender dossier from the Ministry's headquarters starting from July 3, 2024.

Bids must be submitted no later than September 2, 2024, at 2:00 PM. In the meantime, any requests for details or clarifications must be addressed no later than July 18, 2024. Responses will be sent no later than August 2, 2024. The results will be announced on September 2, 2024, one hour after the submission deadline.

Beyond being good news for Tunisian consumers and smartphone vendors, the state is expected to generate significant revenue. For reference, the 4G license generated 471,400 million Tunisian dinars. At what price will operators agree to buy the 5G license? We will find out in two months.
