Official Accreditation for the Agricultural Investment Promotion Agency

The Agricultural Investment Promotion Agency (Apia), under the Ministry of Agriculture, Water Resources, and Fisheries, has obtained its official accreditation from the Green Climate Fund (GCF). This international recognition, announced during the 43rd meeting of the GCF Council, positions Apia among the accredited entities to channel climate financing towards sustainable agricultural projects in Tunisia.

Background on the Green Climate Fund

Established under the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change, the GCF is the world's largest fund dedicated to supporting developing countries in their efforts to adapt to and mitigate the effects of climate change. With this accreditation, Apia becomes the first Tunisian institution specifically focused on financing green agricultural projects to be recognized by the GCF.

Strategic Implications

This strategic step will enable Tunisia to directly access international financial resources aimed at supporting the transition to a more resilient, environmentally friendly, and low-carbon agriculture. The accreditation paves the way for the development of programs integrating sustainable water resource management, value chain enhancement, and protection of rural ecosystems.

Apia's Role and Achievements

For over 40 years, Apia has supported Tunisian agricultural promoters through financial incentives, technical support, and promotion of private investment in the sector. In 2024, it validated over 3,000 investment projects, confirming its role as a driver of national agricultural development.

Global Accreditation Landscape

According to the Green Climate Fund's statement, 158 entities worldwide are now accredited, including 106 with direct access, which allows for a closer link between local institutions and international climate financing.
