ANME Launches DecarboACT, a Platform for Tunisian Businesses to Reduce Carbon Footprint

The Director General of the National Agency for Energy Management (ANME), Fethi Hanchi, announced the launch of DecarboACT, a platform dedicated to decarbonizing Tunisian businesses, during the first edition of DecarboMED, the Mediterranean Decarbonation Forum, held on September 24 and 25, 2024.

During his intervention, Hanchi emphasized the importance of taking action to organize the decarbonation effort in Tunisia. "Our decarbonation platform is not just about organizing the effort, but about taking action, and we are now in that phase," he declared. DecarboACT provides Tunisian businesses with tools and resources to help them reduce their carbon footprint, including a carbon footprint calculator in beta phase, funded by partners such as the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP).

This initiative, part of a larger effort towards energy transition, also offers businesses access to registers of experts and service providers in the field of energy management. Businesses will thus be able to easily choose their technical partners without having to request information from different organizations.

Another essential aspect of DecarboACT is its technical and financial support, aimed at helping businesses adopt best practices in decarbonation. "There is a great challenge facing our businesses, and we must ensure support on all technical and financial aspects," Hanchi highlighted. The platform also integrates a feedback mechanism based on testimonials from project managers who have successfully implemented decarbonation projects.

As part of this environmental commitment, Hanchi also announced that the emissions generated by the organization of the forum, estimated at around 100 tons of CO2, will be offset by planting 5,000 trees in two industrial zones. This gesture marks an important step towards establishing a carbon offset mechanism for Tunisian businesses.

The DecarboACT platform aims to facilitate the management of energy consumption for businesses and provide them with practical solutions to calculate and reduce their carbon footprint.
