Responsible Investment in Agricultural Food for Youth Employment, Transformation of Food Systems, and Achievement of Sustainable Development

A new project, announced by Ezzeddine Ben Cheikh, Minister of Agriculture, Water Resources, and Fisheries, is set to launch, focusing on supporting youth employment in the agricultural sector. This initiative represents a significant step towards a more innovative and responsible Tunisian agriculture, both socially and environmentally.

Main Objective

The primary goal of this project is to create decent jobs for young people and support agricultural and food entrepreneurship, particularly in rural areas. The Minister emphasized that the project also aims to improve the country's food security and promote sustainable rural development. To achieve this, the Ministry is implementing several initiatives to help young people enter the sector, including:

  • Agricultural business incubators
  • Vocational training centers

These initiatives, managed by the Agency for the Promotion of Agricultural Investments, will support young farmers in modernizing their operations and launching new projects.

Challenges and Solutions

The Minister highlighted that one of the biggest challenges for young people remains access to financing. This project, according to him, will help strengthen the technical and financial skills of young people while fostering their entrepreneurial spirit. This support also aims to encourage ecological transition and optimize the use of natural resources to make agriculture more sustainable.

Project Scope

The project will cover six governorates: Bizerte, Zaghouan, Nabeul, Siliana, Sfax, and Médenine, where efforts will be concentrated to stimulate employment and innovation. The Minister also emphasized the Ministry's commitment to continuing its reforms and making agriculture a true driver of growth and employment in Tunisia, while highlighting the creative and innovative capacities of young Tunisians, which are essential for building a more resilient and sustainable agriculture.
