Tunisia Launches New Project to Digitalize Customs Procedures with South Korean Partnership
In line with the national strategy to digitalize administrative procedures, the Tunisian General Directorate of Customs has launched a new project in partnership with the South Korean customs authorities. The goal is to establish an integrated electronic system to better manage the origin of goods.
Key Objectives of the Project
- Implement a fully digital system for determining the origin of products, accessible to both economic operators and customs services
- Base the system on the rules of origin specific to each commercial agreement
- Enhance the reliability of controls and simplify the application of international agreements
Launch Ceremony and Partnership
The initiative was launched during a ceremony held at the General Directorate of Customs headquarters. The Director-General of Customs emphasized the importance of this partnership, which is funded by South Korea and aims to modernize customs procedures. According to him, the project also seeks to strengthen the transparency of administrative operations and relations with economic operators, particularly in the application of preferential tariffs provided for by bilateral and multilateral agreements.
Solidarity and Cooperation between Tunisia and South Korea
The South Korean Ambassador highlighted the solid cooperation between Tunisia and South Korea in the customs field. He stressed the importance of digitizing procedures and implementing the cooperation and mutual assistance agreement signed between the two administrations. The diplomat reaffirmed his country's commitment to supporting the success of this project.
Attendees and Institutional Significance
The event was attended by the Director-General of Tunisian Customs, the Ambassador of the Republic of Korea to Tunisia, the Director-General of the Korean Customs Department of Information, and the CEO of the Korean Customs Cooperation Agency "CUPIA". Representatives from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and several high-ranking officials from the Tunisian customs administration were also present, underscoring the institutional scope and strategic nature of this launch.
