Training Workshop for African Journalists on Circular Economy

Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, October 13-16, 2025

Ten journalists from various African countries, including Tunisia, are participating in a training workshop dedicated to the circular economy. The event is taking place at the United Nations headquarters in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, from October 13 to 16, 2025, and is organized by the International Network of Environmental Journalists.

Objective of the Initiative

This initiative, supported by the African Development Bank's circular economy mechanism and the United Nations Economic Commission for Africa, aims to strengthen the skills of African journalists. The goal is to help them better understand and communicate the transition of the continent towards a circular economic model in a simple and engaging way.

Highlighting Circular Initiatives in Africa

The workshop will also highlight circular initiatives in Africa, which play a key role in creating sustainable jobs, strengthening the competitiveness of African economies, and improving their resilience to climate challenges.

Opening Remarks

The program manager at the African Circular Economy Alliance opened the event by emphasizing that this training will help journalists produce human stories while simplifying the opportunities offered by the circular economy for decision-makers and the general public.

Encouragement to Promote African Experiences

The environmental affairs manager at the Economic Commission for Africa encouraged participants to carry the voice of Africa in global discussions, highlighting the continent's successful experiences. He also stressed the need to make circular economy concepts accessible to all, in order to mobilize broad support for this development model.

Broader Context

This workshop is part of a larger framework: the general meetings of the African Circular Economy Alliance, which take place from October 14 to 16, 2025. Founded in 2016, this coalition of 21 African countries aims to promote a transition to a circular economy that creates growth, jobs, and benefits the environment.
