Interministerial Network for Ecological Transition Launched in Tunisia

The Interministerial Network for Ecological Transition, responsible for monitoring and evaluating the National Strategy for Ecological Transition (SNET) 2035/2050, was launched today during the second National Ecological Transition Conference (ANTE) in Tunis.

This network, composed of representatives from the two presidencies and various ministries, aims to inform, raise awareness, and monitor the implementation of the SNET. Ahmed Herzi, Deputy Director of the International Center for Environmental Technologies in Tunis (CITET), specified that the creation of this network was a recommendation from the first edition of the ANTE in June 2023. Participants had emphasized the need for mobilization of all actors and necessary financing to achieve the 53 measures of the strategy.

Minister of Environment, Leila Chikhaoui, recalled the 5 axes of the strategy:

  • Governance and financing
  • Climate change
  • Sustainable management of natural resources and ecosystems, including combating desertification and drought resilience
  • Promoting sustainable consumption and production patterns, and combating all forms of pollution
  • Developing a culture, science, and knowledge-based approach to ecological transition

A proposal for a charter for municipalities was also presented, with the support of UN-Habitat Tunisia. Aida Robbana, Chief of Office at UN-Habitat Tunisia, explained that this charter, intended for the 350 municipalities, aims to align their actions with the national strategy, focusing on governance and financing, climate change, and natural resources and ecosystems.

The National Ecological Transition Conference, held annually, defines the actions to be taken for the SNET until 2035. It evaluates the progress made and identifies additional efforts required to accelerate ecological transition.
