Tunisian Women Network for Energy Transition (TWNET) Officially Launched
The Tunisian Women Network for Energy Transition (TWNET) was officially launched on Monday, February 26, at Beit El Hekma in Carthage. This event, organized by the GIZ in partnership with the Ministry of Industry, Mines, and Energy, marks a significant step in structuring a support and collaboration space dedicated to women professionals in the sector.
Aiming for Greater Inclusivity in the Energy Sector
This initiative aims to open up the energy sector in Tunisia to greater inclusivity, highlighting the essential contribution of women to its development and future. The idea of creating this network emerged in April 2024 during a workshop, where women from public, private, and associative institutions expressed the need for a solidarity space that would foster their engagement in a sector still largely dominated by men.
Ensuring Sustainability and Effectiveness
To ensure the network's sustainability and effectiveness, preliminary work was carried out to identify active associations and organizations on gender issues. Interviews were conducted to determine success factors and structure an approach adapted to the specificities of the energy sector. Among the key recommendations retained was the need for flexibility in governance and organization, allowing for a more inclusive and reactive approach.
A Participatory Launch
The launch of TWNET was marked by a participatory approach. Workshops were organized to define the network's values, strategic axes, and action plan. An executive bureau was elected through a democratic process involving pitches and a ballot vote.
Priorities and Objectives
Among the announced priorities, Fériel Bouden, President of the network, highlighted the need to inventory the skills of members. The objective is to identify and valorize the talents present in the sector to strengthen professional and entrepreneurial opportunities for members. TWNET already has a community of 60 active members and aims to expand further, particularly on social networks and at the regional level.
A Call to Action
Jacqueline Groth, Head of Cooperation at the German Embassy, called on women in the sector to reinforce their presence and impact by creating synergies and sharing their experiences. Her message resonates with TWNET's vision, which aspires to build a collective dynamic conducive to the growth and progress of women energy professionals.
A New Era for the Energy Sector in Tunisia
With this initiative, the energy sector in Tunisia is opening up to greater inclusivity, highlighting the essential contribution of women to its development and future.
