Ministers Launch National Pandemic Preparedness Project Based on "One Health" Approach

============================================================

The Ministers of Agriculture, Water Resources, and Health officially launched a national pandemic preparedness project on May 6, 2025, based on the integrated "One Health" approach. The ceremony was attended by representatives from the World Health Organization (WHO) Regional Office for North Africa, the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) of the United Nations, the World Bank, as well as several concerned professional structures.

This project, funded by the Pandemic Response Fund, seeks to strengthen Tunisia's capacity to prevent and respond effectively to current and future health threats. It relies on a multisectoral approach, associating human, animal, and environmental health domains.

According to the organizers, the goal is to go beyond the strictly technical scope and embed this initiative in a sustainable intersectoral coordination logic at the national level. The COVID-19 pandemic has highlighted the importance of better alignment between public health, veterinary, and environmental systems to ensure a faster and more effective response to health crises.

The project plans to establish an operational plan for programmed activities, relying on international standards and recommendations from technical and financial partners.
