Launch of the Agricultural and Rural Development Project around the Hill Lakes (DARAL 2)
The Agricultural and Rural Development Project around the Hill Lakes (DARAL 2) was launched on Monday. The project aims to achieve integrated and sustainable management of natural resources in the governorates of Kasserine, Jendouba, and Siliana, in order to improve local living conditions and strengthen adaptation to climate change.
Funding and Objectives
Financed by the German Development Bank (KFW) and the European Union to the tune of €38 million (125.5 million dinars), this project supports sustainable development by promoting optimized management of natural resources. It is part of the national strategy for agricultural land development and preservation by 2050 and will run until 2029.
Achievements and Future Plans
A first phase has already enabled the preservation of 1,500 hectares of land, the creation of three irrigation networks, and the development of 52 km of rural roads. DARAL 2 also plans to support local communities in developing integrated territorial development plans and strengthening the resilience of farmers in the face of climate change.
