Women and Girls Face Increasing Violence in Private, Public, and Online Spaces

Violence against women and girls is on the rise in private, public, and online spaces, exacerbated by intersecting inequalities and discriminations, including those based on race, ethnicity, disability, sexual orientation, socioeconomic status, and age. According to the femicide report published by the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) and UN Women, a woman is intentionally killed every 12 minutes worldwide.

Launch of the Virtual Caravan "Uni.e.s to End Violence Against Women and Girls"

As part of the 16 Days of Activism against Gender-Based Violence, the United Nations Country Team in Tunisia is pleased to announce the launch of the virtual caravan "Uni.e.s to End Violence Against Women and Girls". The objective is to raise public awareness and mobilize various stakeholders in society to effectively combat violence against women and girls.

16 Days of Activism to End Violence Against Women and Girls

The "16 Days of Activism to End Violence Against Women and Girls" is an annual international campaign under the auspices of the United Nations Secretary-General, which begins on November 25, the International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women, and ends on December 10, Human Rights Day. This year's theme, "Towards Beijing+30: UNiTE to End Violence Against Women and Girls", calls on all stakeholders, particularly Member States and the private sector, to take action on the priorities of the 30-year review of the Beijing Platform for Action and the Political Declaration – by recommitting to prevent and end violence against women and girls, taking responsibility, and providing necessary resources.

In this context, we recognize the essential role of women's empowerment in preventing violence against women.

Join the Virtual Caravan from November 25 to December 10

From November 25 to December 10, the virtual caravan will cover all activities and programs of the United Nations System in Tunisia, carried out in collaboration with its partners, across the Tunisian territory to combat gender-based violence (GBV). In Tunisia, 47% of young girls and women have experienced some form of violence, with domestic violence being the most prevalent, which increased in 2021.
