A Window on the Mediterranean: A Training Session Launched at the Carthage Institute of Higher Commercial Studies
A training session titled "A Window on the Mediterranean" was launched on Wednesday, April 22, 2026, at the Carthage Institute of Higher Commercial Studies (IHEC). The event is organized by the ECSTRA laboratory in partnership with the Monaco Sea Academy. For three days, it brings together students, researchers, and experts to discuss maritime issues.
Opening Remarks
In her opening speech, Jouhaina Siala, Director of IHEC Carthage, highlighted the symbolic significance of the location. "Carthage is built on a civilization turned towards the sea," she said. She emphasized that this training is part of a broader academic mission: "To train women and men who can understand the world in all its complexity." The session brings together about 40 participants from several Tunisian universities. The goal is to strengthen their skills and broaden their vision in the face of Mediterranean challenges. The Director also called on participants to get fully involved: "Seize every moment of these three days. Ask questions, debate, and challenge certainties."
Historical Links and Global Approach
Laurent Anselmi stressed the historical links between the two shores. "The Mediterranean is a common heritage," he affirmed. He also recalled that the reflection undertaken must be concrete: "We must think of solutions that do not exclude economic profitability." He advocated for a global and interdisciplinary approach to maritime issues. "Nothing that is maritime should be foreign to us," he added, calling for the crossing of expertise to respond to current changes. A opening message was also addressed by Albert II of Monaco. He recalled the Principality's commitment to the sea and the environment. "Climate and human challenges require strengthened international cooperation," he emphasized. The Prince also highlighted the vocation of the Sea Academy, created in 2023. "This academy is based on a resolutely interdisciplinary approach," he indicated, while welcoming the cooperation with Tunisia and the importance of Francophonie in the transmission of knowledge.
A Step Towards Sustainable Actions
For three days, participants are called upon to debate and propose concrete solutions. This session positions itself as an important step in Mediterranean reflection, with the ambition of transforming exchanges into sustainable actions. The event aims to provide a platform for discussion and collaboration, bringing together experts and stakeholders to address the challenges facing the Mediterranean region. By fostering a spirit of cooperation and innovation, the training session seeks to contribute to a more sustainable and prosperous future for the region.
