Algeria Eyes Fisheries Cooperation with New Zealand
The Algerian Ministry of Fisheries and Marine Productions is considering collaborating with New Zealand in the fisheries sector. To this end, a meeting took place last week between a delegation of Algerian experts and their New Zealand counterparts to explore mutually beneficial cooperation opportunities.
According to the Algerian Press Service (APS), the discussions focused on three priority areas:
- Training in fishing and aquaculture: Exchanging expertise to promote cooperative activities and improve the organization of the fisheries sector.
This Algerian initiative aims to tap into New Zealand's expertise, as the largest supplier of seafood products in Oceania, with catches of 400,000 tons in 2022, 75% of which come from aquaculture.
This move is part of the Algerian government's ambition to double fisheries production to 200,000 tons per year by 2030.
