Turkey Asserts itself as a Key Player in African Trade
Turkey has solidified its position as a crucial actor in African trade, with exports reaching $19.4 billion (12,300 billion CFA francs) in 2024, a 1.7% increase compared to the previous year. Egypt, Turkey's top trading partner, saw a significant 21.8% surge in Turkish imports, followed by Morocco and Libya. Turkish exports include chemical, agricultural, steel, automotive, and electronic products.
This growth is the result of an active economic and diplomatic strategy, which has intensified in recent years, boosting bilateral trade from $3 billion in 2003 to $41 billion in 2022. Furthermore, Turkey is heavily investing in infrastructure development and education in Africa, strengthening its influence through military and social cooperation projects and initiatives.
