Tunisia Approves $500 Million Loan from Afreximbank

Tunisia has officially approved a $500 million loan from the African Export-Import Bank (Afreximbank) to finance the state budget in 2026.

Approval Details

This approval is outlined in Decree No. 108 of 2026, published in the Official Journal of the Republic of Tunisia (JORT) on June 9. The text validates the decision made on March 18, 2026, by the Board of Directors of the Central Bank of Tunisia, authorizing the signing of this loan contract for the benefit of the Tunisian state.

Financing the State Budget

The operation is part of the financing of the budgetary needs provided for by the 2026 Finance Act. The decree specifies that the credit is contracted "for the benefit of the state and on its behalf." With an amount equivalent to approximately 1.5 billion dinars at the current exchange rate, this financing constitutes one of the significant external resources mobilized by Tunisia since the beginning of the year to support public financial balances.
