Introduction of TUNPAY: A Unified Label for Mobile Payments in Tunisia
The Central Bank of Tunisia has launched a unique label, "TUNPAY", to make mobile payments more transparent, visible, and reliable nationwide.
What Changes with TUNPAY
In practical terms, the change is straightforward. A single "TUNPAY" logo will be displayed everywhere mobile payments are accepted, including:
- Retail stores
- Applications
- Bank branches
- Service points Currently, each actor uses its own indicators. With this label, everything becomes standardized. A customer will immediately know they can pay with their phone, regardless of their wallet or bank.
Benefits for Users
For users, the advantage is direct. Mobile payments become easier to spot and use in daily life. There's no need to wonder if a merchant accepts this payment method. The label acts as a trust signal, intended to reassure users about the security and reliability of transactions.
Benefits for Merchants
For merchants, it's also a gain in visibility. Displaying "TUNPAY" clearly indicates that they accept mobile payments, which can attract a wider customer base and accelerate transactions.
Objective Behind TUNPAY
Behind this initiative, the objective is broader: to accelerate the adoption of digital payments in Tunisia and structure a still-fragmented ecosystem. By unifying the image and uses, the Central Bank aims to remove obstacles related to a lack of clarity and trust. The measure, officially announced in a note signed by Governor Fethi Zouheir Nouri, relies on a simple principle: a single label for a more fluid and generalized use of mobile payments.
