Tunisia's Self-Employed Status Takes a New Step Forward with Simplified Procedures and Obstacle Removal

The self-employed status in Tunisia has reached a new milestone with measures aimed at simplifying procedures and removing obstacles to its implementation.

This was announced by the Minister of Employment and Vocational Training yesterday, December 25, during a meeting of the steering committee.

The meeting, which brought together representatives from the Ministry, the National Agency for Employment and Independent Work, the National Social Security Fund, the Directorate General of Taxation of the Ministry of Finance, the National Register of Enterprises, and the Ministry of Communication Technologies, aimed to evaluate the first phase of the project and adopt subsequent decisions to ensure its success.

The measures include:

  • Simplifying procedures by eliminating certain obligations, such as signature legalization, and accepting reference documents such as utility bills (electricity, gas, or water).
  • Immediately and continuously resolving issues preventing certain candidates from registering on the self-employed platform.
  • Strengthening technical interconnection between the National Register of Enterprises and concerned administrations.
  • Updating the list of eligible activities under the system in compliance with the 2025 Finance Law.
  • Scheduling a discussion on the communication plan for the self-employed system at the next meeting, set for early January 2025.

The Minister emphasized the need to accelerate necessary adjustments to facilitate adherence to the status without resorting to complex legislative revisions. He reaffirmed the State's commitment to addressing encountered obstacles in a precise and proactive manner, ensuring the effective implementation of this status.
