Tunisia Takes a Decisive Step towards Energy Transition with the Signing of Six Hydrogen Production Agreements

Yesterday, July 29, Tunisia took a significant step towards energy transition by signing six protocols of agreement for the production of green hydrogen, according to a statement from the Ministry of Industry, Mines, and Energy.

The event, held in Tunis, brought together Wael Chouchen, Secretary of State in charge of Energy Transition, Samir Majoul, President of the Tunisian Union of Industry, Commerce, and Handicrafts, as well as ambassadors, representatives of funding agencies, and leaders from the Tunisian Electricity and Gas Company and the National Agency for Energy Management.

The agreements were signed with several international companies, including the "TUNUR" consortium, "Aker Horizons", "Verbund", "Savanah Energy", "Hydrogène de France", "Amarenco", "H2 Global", "DEME Hyport", and "Abo Energy".

These strategic partnerships are part of Tunisia's vision to produce 8.3 million tons of green hydrogen and its derivatives by 2050, with a significant portion intended for export.

With an estimated investment of €120 billion, Tunisia is positioning itself as a key player in the green hydrogen sector, leveraging its natural resources and infrastructure to attract international investments. This initiative also aims to strengthen the national industrial sector by relying on local skills.
