Tunisia Shines on the Global Olive Oil Stage, Winning First Place at the Afro-Asian International Competition
Tunisia has made a remarkable impression on the global olive oil scene, taking home the top prize at the Afro-Asian international competition organized by the Global International Olive Oil Competitions (GIOOC) in Abu Dhabi. With an impressive total of 60 gold medals and 4 silver medals, the country has solidified its leadership in the extra virgin olive oil industry, surpassing renowned nations such as Greece and Spain.
In fact, 53 medals were awarded in the quality category, 7 for healthy oil, and 4 for silver. According to a statement to Emirates loves Tunisia, the President of GIOOC, Tunisian engineer Raouf Choukat, this success confirms the excellence of Tunisian olive oil, which has outperformed Greece, ranked second, and Spain, ranked third.
Among the 200 samples presented by participating countries, Tunisia submitted 65 samples. An international jury composed of 10 experts from Tunisia, Italy, Spain, Greece, Morocco, Turkey, and Jordan was responsible for evaluating the oils.
In addition to Tunisia, participating countries included Greece, Spain, Italy, Portugal, Saudi Arabia, Brazil, Croatia, Algeria, Libya, Turkey, Morocco, Jordan, Lebanon, and the Sultanate of Oman. The GIOOC organizes several international competitions every year, spread across Europe, Asia, and America, dedicated to extra virgin olive oil.
