Startup Genome Unveils the Most Comprehensive Report on Ecosystems Worldwide, Launched at VivaTech

Startup Genome, in partnership with the Global Entrepreneurship Network, has published the 13th edition of the flagship report: the Global Startup Ecosystem Report (GSER). This report, considered the most exhaustive research on startup ecosystems, is based on the most controlled database in the industry, examining data from over 5 million companies across more than 350 innovation entrepreneurial ecosystems worldwide.

In collaboration with the Startups & Innovative SMEs Project, funded by the World Bank and implemented by the Caisse des Dépôts et Consignations (CDC) and Smart Capital, Tunisia features in the #GSER2025. Key highlights include:

  • 113 billion in value generated by the Tunisian ecosystem between July 1, 2022, and December 31, 2024. The "Ecosystem Value" measures the economic impact based on exits and startup valuations.
  • Top 20 globally and #3 in MENA for Affordable Talent – reflecting the ability to recruit high-quality tech talent at a competitive cost.
  • 2 in MENA for Quality-to-Price Ratio – measuring the average funding duration that a tech startup can secure from a venture capital round.

  • Top 10 in MENA for Funding – reflecting the financing dynamics and investor activity.
  • Top 15 in MENA for Talent & Experience – measuring the ability to attract, train, and retain talent over time.
  • Top 15 in MENA for Knowledge – measuring innovation through research and patent activity.

Sectoral drivers of startup growth in Tunisia: The Green Economy, Healthtech, and AI sectors represent the major strengths of the Tunisian ecosystem. They are supported by large-scale clean energy projects, targeted financing programs for startups, and the development of deeptech infrastructure. In 2024-2025, Tunisia advanced on green hydrogen projects, established the AI Innovation Hub in partnership with NVIDIA, and expanded health entrepreneurship through initiatives like Flywheel.

Why startups choose Tunisia: Tunisia offers unique structural advantages: strategic access to international markets, strong government support with the Startup Act, and qualified talent at a competitive cost. In 2024-2025, several initiatives consolidated this position, including the $113.6 million Fund of Funds ANAVA, the future Digital Nomad Visa, and the coverage of CNSS contributions for founders.

"The Tunisian startup and venture capital ecosystem is dynamic, driven by a pool of talents, progressive regulation, and attractive investment incentives, positioning Tunisia as a strategic gateway for growth in Africa and beyond." — Nejia Gharbi, CDC
