Tunisia Elected as Arab Capital of Tourism for 2027

The Tunisian capital has been elected as the Arab Capital of Tourism for 2027 during the 28th session of the Arab Ministerial Council for Tourism in Baghdad. On December 9, 2025, Tunisia achieved a double consecration at the regional level. During the 28th session of the Arab Ministerial Council for Tourism, held on December 8 and 9 in Baghdad, the Ministry of Tourism announced that Tunisia has been officially elected as the Arab Capital of Tourism for 2027, while also obtaining a seat on the executive board and the vice-presidency of the Arab Tourism Council.

A Major Recognition for Tunisia

The designation of Tunisia as the Arab Capital of Tourism is a major recognition for the country. The Ministry emphasizes that this title also crowns "the integration of the Tunisian capital into the UNESCO network of creative cities in 2026," confirming its growing status on the regional cultural and tourist scene.

Minister of Tourism Sofiane Tekaya's Official Address

During the ministerial session in Baghdad, Minister of Tourism Sofiane Tekaya delivered the official address of Tunisia. He recalled that rapid global changes require a more agile vision for the sector: "Tourism is now at the crossroads of economic, social, and cultural challenges, and its management requires innovation, flexibility, and sustainability," he stated.

Efforts to Modernize and Diversify Tourism

He also highlighted Tunisia's recent efforts to modernize and diversify its tourist offer, particularly through digitization, the use of artificial intelligence in promotion, support for startups, improvement of service quality, and the development of cultural, Saharan, oasian, health, and conference tourism.

Cooperation and Integration

The Minister emphasized the need for cooperation: "The future of Arab tourism will be built through solid cooperation between our countries and a real ability to build an integrated regional system based on joint projects."

Bilateral Meetings and Election to the Executive Board

The Tunisian participation was also marked by a series of bilateral meetings with the tourism ministers of Libya, Jordan, Oman, Iraq, and Bahrain, in the presence of the Tunisian Ambassador to Baghdad, Chokri Latif. Finally, as part of the renewal of the structures of the Arab Ministerial Council for Tourism, Tunisia was elected as a member of the executive board and vice-president of the Council, consolidating its strategic role in regional decisions aimed at developing a common Arab vision for tourism.
