Tunisia Celebrates the 198th Anniversary of its National Flag
Today, Monday, October 20, 2025, Tunisia is celebrating the 198th anniversary of its national flag, created in 1827 by Bey Hussein II after the Battle of Navarin. This flag, a symbol of pride, national unity, and freedom, remains a strong element of Tunisian identity.
Celebrations Across the Country
As every year, Tunisians have celebrated this day with several manifestations and parades throughout the country. Yesterday, Sunday, a large celebration took place on Habib Bourguiba Avenue in Tunis, organized by the "Tourathna" (Our Heritage) association under the slogan "Kharjet el A'lam" (The Flag's Exit).
Citizens, associations such as the Tunisian Scouts and the Tunisian Red Crescent, as well as the Ksar Hellal majorettes, participated in this event. The procession started from the Municipal Theater to the Ibn Khaldoun statue.
A Festive Atmosphere
The atmosphere was festive, with children's drawing workshops, a plastic arts exhibition, and patriotic songs performed by a choir in front of the Municipal Theater.
The Tunisian Flag: A Symbol of Resistance and Freedom
The Tunisian flag is red, with a white disk in the center containing a red five-pointed star surrounded by a crescent. This design, which has remained almost unchanged since its creation, symbolizes resistance, freedom, and the continuity of the Tunisian nation.
- Adopted officially in 1831, it became the flag of the Tunisian Republic on June 1, 1959.
- The law of June 30, 1999, specifies its exact dimensions and proportions.
The celebration of the Tunisian flag's anniversary is a testament to the country's rich history and its people's commitment to their national identity.
