Tunisia and Switzerland Launch Climate Protection Collaboration

As part of the Paris Agreement on climate, Tunisia's Minister of Environment, Leila Chikhaoui-Mahdaoui, and Switzerland's Ambassador to Tunisia, Josef Renggli, have announced the launch of a climate protection collaboration between the two nations.

Bilateral Agreement

This initiative stems from a bilateral agreement signed during COP 28, supported by the Swiss Foundation for Climate Protection and CO2 Compensation "KliK", mandated by the Swiss Federal Office for the Environment.

Climate Investments

The collaboration will support the development of climate investments at the national and local levels, promoting projects with high potential for greenhouse gas emission reduction in areas such as:

  • Solar photovoltaics
  • Energy efficiency
  • Biogas
  • Waste management
  • Electromobility

Private Sector Involvement

During the event, Minister Chikhaoui-Mahdaoui emphasized the crucial role of the private sector in climate protection. She highlighted the need to develop mechanisms to support and incentivize green investments, as a key condition for promoting innovation and creating startups and high-tech enterprises in this field.

Win-Win Agreement

Ambassador Renggli underscored the mutually beneficial nature of the agreement between the two countries: "The bilateral agreement and the launch of the Foundation's activities in Tunisia concretize Switzerland's and Tunisia's international commitments to combat climate change. Both countries are working together to reduce their greenhouse gas emissions, while consolidating and enriching their excellent bilateral relations."

Call to Action

To implement this collaboration, organizations, businesses, and individuals can submit ideas or projects for climate protection activities on the KliK Foundation website.
